We're back...now what?

Support, Reflection, Clarity and Opportunity

Welcome to a brand new book of 365 clean pages. How are you going to fill these pages this year? What is going to be your story for 2023?

My name is Nivi Singh-Kassiram and I am a Business Owner who understands the complexities and challenges that come with running and growing a business.

Our past has taught us to expect the unexpected, the magnitude of competition has taught us to be authentic, our challenges have brought us to our true purpose and all we do is held firm by our WHY.

Bear with me this year as I invite you to go on a journey of exploration...together. Learning new things, supporting each other and elevating ourselves to the next level.

Lets start by exploring where you were at last year:

Which one of these was you last year?

  • Spent too much time trying too many different things

  • Exhausted and Overwhelmed

  • Lacking Strategic Direction

  • Too much Information Overload

The question is...do you want a repeat of that or do you want to do this year differently?

4 Questions to help you navigate

1. What would your life look like if nothing stood in your way?

  • What is it that you truly love to do?

  • Where does your talent, your purpose and your why intersect?

  • How will you bring that into what you do this year?

Understand yourself and connect with yourself again. Confidence, motivation and drive will be required as you take on the new year.

2. What changes do you need to make to support this vision?

Being an entrepreneur and sometimes parent, spouse etc. means that we have a multitude of responsibilities and these can present significant challenges. How do you ensure that you create a support system around you to ensure that what you prioritise is taken care off as you pursue your dreams while still being present and not feel guilty?

From a time management perspective focus on the most important areas that are aligned to the goal and vision that you set for yourself. Make a conscious effort this year not to become derailed by things going on around you. Everyone is unique, figure out what works best for your situation and adjust as it changes.

Build in exercise, sleep and a healthy diet as best you can. Regular downtime is more important than you think to support your mental and physical wellbeing for sustained productivity as well as brain health.

Don’t let self-doubt and becoming overwhelmed stand in your way. There are ways of coping with all of these things to ensure that the journey is not so difficult. We often don't ask for help. We need to be able to identify and tackle those and other limiting beliefs as it’s important to reframe the negative assumptions for optimal functioning.

Like many, we have become boxed in our thinking (as an employee it is very much black and white - you either meet your KPI or you don't) but as an business owner you have to learn to look further than that. To develop resilience, be in action taking mode, recognise opportunities quickly and adapt as you learn to solve problems rather than see them as roadblocks, accept failure as a learning. We have to accept a different way of thinking.

Failure is truly a stepping stone to success and should be embraced as a learning opportunity rather than a dealbreaker as we've been conditioned to believe. Every successful entrepreneur has had to fail in some way or the other. Change your mindset around this. This is not a KPI

3. How can you create a support system around you?

This is precisely the reason why I started AccelerateHer Official. Over the course of my time with the group I realised that business owners face very similar struggles.

Allowing yourself to share these challenges and get insights from people that have walked this journey already or are currently facing them can make a huge difference. Together we really are stronger.

Being an entrepreneur you can quickly lose perspective. Having a network of likeminded people around you brings great value to situations where time is limited and you can lean on people you know, like and trust.

As a closer inner circle, I advocate your own "Personal Board of Directors" for any entrepreneur navigating this self-run business world. Consider the following:

A Coach and/or Mentor

  • Someone that provides a different perspective, gets you thinking and reflecting back at you, highlights your blind spots and asks those tough questions that you cannot ask yourself.

  • Someone who’s done what you’re trying to do and succeeded, but most of all is willing to support you.

  • Someone who has knowledge and experience to guide you.

  • A role often shared as an accountability partner to hold you to the goals that you have set for yourself. Someone who you know wants you to succeed

The Gap Closer

  • Someone that can be a source of useful information in the specific but vital areas that you fall short in. The one that can provide tools, resources and connect you with the right people to propel you forward.

Your Confidant

  • Someone you trust that encourages you, motivates you and keeps you moving in the right direction.

  • Someone you can confide in and you can trust to give you the right advice when things get tough.

  • This may very well be the most important person so reliability is paramount.

4. How do you stay ahead of the game?

This can be a moving target most days as we move swiftly with technology and the progress being made generally. Staying ahead of the game can only be accomplished through thorough research, constantly innovating, collaborating and not being afraid to try new things.

Build your confidence and acknowledge your self-worth. Improve your ability to self-promote and show up for yourself no matter the platform. Network and get to know other people. This will help you accelerate, to be able to do what you love. Be honest enough with yourself to recognise the beliefs and assumptions that might be standing in your way and to reach out for help you might need to reach your ultimate goal.

So charge forward with confidence and conviction, to reclaim your space. Stand in your ultimate truth and live a life of purpose doing what truly sets your soul on fire. It is at this very point, that every bit of life’s lessons, challenges, courage and experience has culminated so that you can make your indomitable mark on the world!
